Christopher Maurice Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor. He is a contemporary R&B musician,[note 1] who has often been referred to by his contemporaries as the “King of R&B“.[note 2] While an R&B singer and songwriter, his music has also been influenced by hip hop and pop genres. His lyrics often address emotional and hedonistic themes.[note 3] His singing and dancing skills have often been compared favorably to those of pop icon Michael Jackson.[16]
In 2004, Brown signed with Jive Records and released his eponymous debut studio album the following year, later certified Triple Platinum.[17][18] With his debut single “Run It!” peaking atop the Billboard Hot 100, Brown was the first male artist since 1995 to have his debut single top the chart. His second album, Exclusive (2007), was commercially successful worldwide, spawning his second Billboard Hot 100 number one single, “Kiss Kiss“.
“Loyal” is a song by American singer Chris Brown, released as the fourth single from his sixth studio album X (2014). Produced by Nic Nac and Mark Kragen, the song features American rapper Lil Wayne and another American rapper depending on a specific version: Tyga on the album version, French Montana on the East Coast version, and Too $hort on the West Coast version. The song was written by Brown, Wayne, Bobby Brackins, Ty Dolla $ign, and the producers, as well as different interpolative-credited artists, varying for each respective version.
In February 2014, the music video for “Loyal”, directed by Chris Brown,[22][23] was shot at Universal City Walk with Lil Wayne and Tyga. The clip was recorded while Brown was in a rehab facility, with the singer being allowed to leave from 11 to 11 to film the video.[24][25] On March 21, 2014, Brown announced that the music video would be released on March 24, 2014.[26] Then as planned, the music video for the album version of the song was released that day. Singers Usher, Trey Songz and Ty Dolla $ign make cameo appearances in the video.[27][28] On August 25, 2020, the video passed one billion views on YouTube, becoming Brown’s first music video to do so.
